Oncology

Oncology is a medical specialty that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer. Oncologists are physicians who specialize in managing patients with cancer and coordinating their care through various stages of the disease. There are three primary subspecialties within oncology: medical oncology (which focuses on the use of chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and other systemic treatments), surgical oncology (which focuses on the surgical removal of tumours and surrounding tissues), and radiation oncology (which focuses on the use of radiation therapy to destroy cancer cells). Oncologists work collaboratively with other healthcare providers, such as surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, and supportive care specialists, to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to cancer patients.
